I wanted to share my hair care must haves as a part of my healthy hair regimen. After having my third child and starting to get the dreadful postpartum hair loss I decided to finally take action!!! I am loving my fuller mane and I don’t want to see it go!

Here are a few of my simple but effective hair care tips and tricks! You don’t have to be postpartum, EVERYONE should be doing it! But after having a baby it is so important to support your hair-especially with all the hormonal changes your body is experiencing.

WHY POSTPARTUM HAIR LOSS?

Almost all women go through this after having a child. Some a little and some a lot. Hair follicles grow through resting and growing periods naturally but when you are pregnant your hair follicles are resting more. Hmmm I wonder why…maybe because you are growing a human?!?! Once you are no longer pregnant your body tries to play catch up and get rid of the hair it didn’t lose during pregnancy! It is always amazing to me how I am not bald…I swear I lose a headful of hair every day!

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

You can turn to your hair stylist or doctor for help but I recommend taking your own steps first and try to handle it naturally! Reach into your cabinets, or if your like me-reach to your essential oil rack for help!

SULFUR is a great place to start. Human hair is made of Keratin which is very high in sulfur. When you think of the scent you smell when hair is burning that is the sulfur. It is what gives your hair its strength and elasticity. Even if you aren’t postpartum, if your hair is dry and brittle I would give sulfur a try.

So how do you get more sulfur into your diet? You can consume foods (like fish, beef, eggs, onions, garlic, asparagus, kale and cauliflower) that provide your body with the proper nutrition for keratin synthetization. You can also take a dietary supplement-my personal favorite is Sulfurzyme (Young Living) which provides your body with naturally occurring sulfur and other ingredients that promote strong, healthy hair growth.

MAKE A SCALP SPRAY– you can easily whip up a scalp spray that you can spray onto your scalp daily. I take a small spray bottle and mix the following blend of essential oils with water.

  • 10 drops Rosemary
  • 10 Drops Cedarwood
  • 10 Drops Lavender

Give it a quick shake and spray on your roots daily. Gently massage-that’s it! Because it contains essential oils not fatty oils you don’t have to worry about greasy hair and can use it anytime! You can also make a hair serum in a 2 ounce dropper bottle. Use the same amount of oils but instead of the water use carrier oil. Castor oil is a great choice for hair loss and jojoba is a great choice for dry hair.

PROGESSENCE PLUS– Another great daily go-to is Progessence Plus, a blend of Sacred Frankincense, peppermint, wild yam extract, vitamin E oil and more. This blend is great for supporting healthy skin and beauty. Great for all ages but so important for women 30 and over.

These are just a few of the things you can try to support healthy hair! What tips do you have?

What essential oils do you use? We use Young Living Essential Oils– find out more about Young Living and how we use them for our family HERE.
